Fried Idli
This is a dish which saves you from the hassles of making sambar, chutney, soaking rice and dal for idli and satisfy your quench for healthy , tasty , n quickest easy homemade snack. Adapted from my elders, with little variation I Present to you the all-time favorite yummy way to your hubby’s tummy.
Recipe of Fried Idli :
You will need :
For the Seasoning >>
1. 1 capsicum or green bell pepper sliced thinly
2. 1 Carrot shredded thickly or thin long slices
3. Half thinly and length-wise slices cabbage
4. 1 thinly sliced onion
5. Green chilies according to your taste
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tbsp cooking oil
- 4-5 curry leaves (optional)
- Salt to taste
- Tomato ketchup to taste
- Black pepper to taste
For the Idli batter : - 1 cup beaten yoghurt or dahi or chaach or buttermilk
- 1 cup fine sooji or semolina
- Salt to taste
- ¼ tsp baking soda(optional)
- 1 spoon cooking oil
- Eno 1 sachet
Preparations :
1. Take a bowl and add suji and dahi in it. Mix them well .Add all the ingredients except eno. Let the batter sit for 15 mins covered.
2. Now take a Microwave safe bowl or an idli stand of cooker. Grease it with oil.
3. Add eno and 4 drops of water and give it a stir.
4. Now fill the batter in the idli moulds of stands.
- For microwave, cover them and let it cook for 3:30 mins .Check with a toothpick inserted in the center, if it comes out wet , move it for 30 more secs in the microwave.
(Caution: Don’t open the vessel instantly. Give it a standing time of 2-3 mins and then open the container). - For Pressure cooker, bring water to the boil. Then place the idli stands carefully for 10-12 mins in the cooker to steam them.
Seasoning: - Heat oil in a pan or wok. Add mustard seeds and curry leaves. Let them sputter.
- Add all the vegetables and stir fry them on medium heat.
- Once the vegetables are cooked add salt, black pepper, tomato ketchup, vinegar, and idli and stir them well.

You may add grated beetroot in the idli batter and make scarlet or magenta coloured idli :
