> > I added Mawa to balance out the poppy seeds taste. Also I added Gur (jaggery) to give it an extra brown color and texture. Also gur is healthy , and hence this sweet is perfect for diabetic people. Just skip the mawa(for diabetes) and like Gur papadi ,it will be your another favourite one.

INGREDIENTS:
1. Poppy Seeds (khuskhus/poshak) – 14 cup + 2 tbsp
2. Mawa – 12 cup
3. Gur shredded / Shakkar (Indian Jaggery) – 12 cup
4. Water – 12 cup
5. Silvered almonds – 1 tbsp (for garnishing)

strongMETHOD:</strong
|Preparation time : 5-6 mins | Cooking time : 5 mins | Makes 12(small) laddos |
1. Heat a wok on stove. Add Poppy seeds to it. Dry roast them till golden brown on medium heat. Stir constantly.

  1. After roasting them for 2-3 mins take them out in a plate.
See the change in color. Also you will smell the roasted poppy seeds aroma.

  2. Grind them in Coffee machine or small jar of mixer or grind -mill.Since I did not have either of them,my were not grounded properly. Hence I added Mawa to it. If they get fine powdered you don’t need to add mawa. However, Mawa brings additional taste to the recipe.Dry Roast the Mawa before adding it to the Ground poppy seeds and keep aside.

  3. Now heat Gur in a saucepan with some water in it.

  4. Turn off the heat when it comes to a boil and all the gur has melted properly. Let it cool down for a minute and then add the mawa-khuskhus mix to it and stir it well.

  5. Becuase of Mawa it will not set in the thali rather just thicken up a little.

  6. So grease your hands with ghee and roll out laddoos from this on cooling.

In the same recipe , if you add more poppy seeds instead of mawa , you will get a fudge on mixing it with gur chashni(jaggery syrup). In that case, just prepare your thali/plate by smearing it with ghee beforehand. Then add the lumpy mix of gur-poppy dough kind and spread it with a greased spoon.

It is an effortless, time saving recipe!! So enjoy and share your experiences below!!
We love to hear from you! 🙂
